AJ Fernandez is undoubtedly one of the most prolific cigar makers of the modern era. Raised in Cuba, he now operates 10 tobacco farms and 2 cigar factories in Nicaragua. Between these facilities, over 100,000 cigars a day are produced under his watchful eye. While there are many versions of AJ Fernandez’s New World cigars, the Oscuro blend is the original and most popular version of the mark. Utilizing tobaccos exclusively grown, aged, and fermented on his own farms, Fernandez created a tremendous blend using some of his most prized tobaccos. The blend begins with Nicaraguan filler leaves from Ometepe, Condega, and Estelí along with a binder from Jalapa. The wrapper is a naturally fermented Oscuro he calls Dark Nicaragua. Tasting notes include earth, chocolate, and pepper with hints of salted nuts and dried fruits. It’s no surprise this is a best seller. It’s the perfect combination of value and flavor.
