Drew Estate is one of the largest and most popular cigar manufacturers in Nicaragua. Over the years, they have developed a cult-like following of fans. If you take a step back and look at things, it’s easy to understand why. From the beginning, they have prioritized developing relationships with their consumer base, and it has not changed in over 20 years. It is evident in their social media, their in-store events, and most recently their online events. If you’ve been connected with them in one of these fashions, you understand the hype is real. They are genuinely focused on having an authentic experience with their fans. It doesn’t matter if you’re interacting with one of their local sales reps or a principal, the enthusiasm and love for the brand is evident. This unique relationship set the stage for tremendous growth and eventually acquisition. None of that really matters unless the product is something special. Throughout their history, Drew Estate has been making outstanding quality cigars that are as unique as the company itself. From Acid to Liga Privada, everything in the Drew Estate portfolio is special.
MUWAT is a funny name for a cigar, but it’s origins are from one of Jonathan Drew’s favorite Public Enemy songs “My Uzi Weighs A Ton.” The brand was originally released under the full name, but people started to abbreviate it to MUWAT. It was much less of a mouthful to speak, and the MUWAT name stuck. It’s an interesting brand for Drew Estate as it’s one of the few cigars under their masthead that is not made in their La Gran Fabrica factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Instead it is made at the oldest cigar factory in the nation at Joya de Nicaragua. The blend begins with filler tobaccos from Brazil and Nicaragua, a binder leaf from Ecuador, and it is capped with a Mexican San Andres wrapper leaf. Tasting notes include flavors of earth, leather, and cocoa with hints of pepper, citrus, and dried fruits. Bottom line, this another solid entry from the good folks at Drew Estate.
