Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr., known as the Godfather Of Boutique cigars, has poured over forty years of blood, sweat and tears into the cigar industry. His hard work and dedication have cemented his legend and he is one of the most respected cigar makers in the business today.
Ernesto got his start in the industry when he acquired the rights to produce the fabled Cuban-brand, La Gloria Cubana, in the U.S. at his El Credito factory in Miami. During the cigar boom, the demand for La Gloria’s unique taste got so big that Ernesto had to open up another factory in the Dominican Republic to keep up. In 1999, he sold the company, but stayed as the man in charge until 2009.
In 2011, he decided it was to get back in the business and created EPC Cigar Co. Ernesto brought the kids along too and Lissette and Ernesto III are both actively involved in creating this new chapter in the life of their father.
La Historia was introduced in 2014 to rave reviews. It’s full of everything that makes for a super tasty smoke: a box-pressed shape with a smooth, oily Mexican San Andreas wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatran binder, and a rich blend of Nicaraguan fillers. The flavor is a medium-full with a mixture of creamy chocolate, rich coffee bean, pepper and hearty earthiness. It’s a cigar unlike anything that EPC has created before and raises the bar for what can be created in the Dominican Republic. The cigar, unsurprisingly, earned the #2 spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2014—which is a pick we more than agree with.
