There’s something exciting about watching a young cigar company hustle. They’ve got the vision and the drive; they usually have some angle to work; and hopefully they have the tobaccos and cigars to back it all up. Luckily for Reinier Lorenzo he did. In 2011 he founded HVC as a way of paying homage to Havana City where he lived for most of his life. He was inspired by his upbringing to keep the Cuban tradition of hand-made cigars alive and well. His focus is mainly on outstanding, small-crop Nicaraguan tobaccos that remind him of home. Each cigar in the HVC portfolio is a unique experience that in some way or another pays homage to his hometown. We jumped on the HVC band wagon early on, and it has been a pleasure to watch this outstanding upstart company gain traction and attention.
The HVC 10th Anniversary is a limited edition release commemorating their 10th year in the premium cigar world. Continuing their tradition of using small-crop Nicaraguan tobaccos, there will only be 2,000 boxes of 10 made. The blend features three different Nicaraguan fillers (Corojo 99, Corojo 2012, and Criollo 98) along with an undisclosed Nicaraguan binder leaf. Topping the blend is a chocolate colored Aganorsa Corojo 2012 wrapper. Tasting notes include flavors of earth, cedar, and dried fruits with hints of caramel, pepper, and baking spices. With complex flavors and a spectacular aroma, the HVC 10th Anniversary is a knockout from this boutique cigar company.
