There’s something exciting about watching a young cigar company hustle. They’ve got the vision and the drive; they usually have some angle to work; and hopefully they have the tobaccos and cigars to back it all up. Luckily for Reinier Lorenzo he did. In 2011 he founded HVC as a way of paying homage to Havana City where he lived for most of his life. He was inspired by his upbringing to keep the Cuban tradition of hand-made cigars alive and well. His focus is mainly on outstanding, small-crop Nicaraguan tobaccos that remind him of home. Each cigar in the HVC portfolio is a unique experience that in some way or another pays homage to his hometown. We jumped on the HVC band wagon early on, and it has been a pleasure to watch this outstanding upstart company gain traction and attention.
The HVC 500 Years Anniversary was a blend created to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Havana, Cuba. Havana City is where Reinier Lorenzo was born and raised, so it’s no surprise that he named his cigar company after the city and would celebrate this milestone with a special cigar. Made at HVC’s new factory in Nicaragua the blend features Nicaragua Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 filler, a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder, and is topped with a Nicaragua Corojo 99 wrapper. Tasting notes include flavors of earth, salted butter, cedar, and nuts along with hints of cocoa, pepper, and baking spices. The HVC 500 Years Anniversary is another exceptional blend from Lorenzo and a testament to the skills of his new factory.
