There’s something exciting about watching a young cigar company hustle. They’ve got the vision and the drive; they usually have some angle to work; and hopefully they have the tobaccos and cigars to back it all up. Luckily for Reinier Lorenzo he did. In 2011 he founded HVC as a way of paying homage to Havana City where he lived for most of his life. He was inspired by his upbringing to keep the Cuban tradition of hand-made cigars alive and well. His focus is mainly on outstanding, small-crop Nicaraguan tobaccos that remind him of home. Each cigar in the HVC portfolio is a unique experience that in some way or another pays homage to his hometown. We jumped on the HVC band wagon early on, and it has been a pleasure to watch this outstanding upstart company gain traction and attention.
HVC Cerro Maduro paid tribute to one of the oldest neighborhoods in Havana, El Cerro. The blend of Cerro was made with a combination of the finest leaves from Jalapa and Estelí. HVC Cerro uses 3 years aged tobacco. This provides an excellent array of flavors ranging from chocolate, espresso and black pepper. The cigar is full bodied, but without any harshness at all.
