Since 2004 Abe Flores has been on a mission to bring a little flair to the “Cigar Capital of the World”, Tamboril, Dominican Republic. It’s not that the city wasn’t exciting, but it was known for creating world class cigars by manufacturers that tended to fly a bit under the radar. Names like Jochy Blanco of Tabacalera Palma come to mind. While most manufacturers in the area focused on creating cigars using exclusively Dominican-grown tobaccos, Abe launched PDR cigars using tobaccos from around the world. His boutique factory also stands apart from others in the region featuring a modern facility and bright paint job. Flores also uses bright colors and bold packaging on most of his brands to help set his products apart in a crowded field. His 15+ years of hard work to establish PDR as a world class cigar manufacturer has paid off in recent years, earning the brand numerous awards throughout the industry.
El Criollito by A. Flores is a PDR cigar of a different stripe. The blend was created as an alternative for American consumers who were constantly telling Abe that their favorite cigar was the Cuban Montecristo. Having enjoyed plenty of these cigars himself, he knew that it was possible to create a blend in his factory that would go toe-to-toe with this highly regarded brand. The blend is complex and features Nicaraguan Criollo 98 and other filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. He added a spectacular wrapper-grade Mexican San Andres leaf for the binder and topped it off with a prized Ecuadorian Criollo 98 wrapper. This special wrapper leaf was chosen because of its exceptional flavors, and it’s similar appearance to that of the Montecristo. This blend features complex flavors of pepper, coffee, and toasted nuts with hints of cedar and baking spices. It’s an excellent cigar! Fumalo Tigre (Smoke it Tiger)!
