For more than five generations, the Plasencia family have been known as some of the best tobacco growers the world over. They have been manufacturing cigars that are known for their quality for just as long. Although not a household name (yet), you’ve likely seen their handiwork in brands like Rocky Patel, Gurkha, & Romeo y Julieta, just to name a few. A few years ago, the Plasencias decided they wanted their moment in the limelight and launched the exceptional super-premium Plasencia cigars. It was designed as a vehicle to showcase their talents as tobacco growers and cigar manufacturers.
The 2014 growing season was a banner year for Plasencia’s tobacco crops. The yields were bountiful, and the tobaccos were of outstanding quality. 2014 was also the family’s 149th consecutive year of growing tobacco. To commemorate this special crop, they decided to name a cigar after it, and the Cosecha 149 was born. This box-pressed Honduran puro features filler tobaccos from Jamastran, Olancho, and Talanga regions along with a binder from the Jamastran valley. The Olancho San Agustin wrapper is well aged and is an almost perfect looking dark wrapper leaf. Tasting notes include flavors of leather, cocoa, and coffee with hints of earth and pepper that are perfectly balanced. You really can’t go wrong with any Plasencia cigar, and the Cosecha 149 is no exception. It’s a highly enjoyable cigar that will have you coming back for more.
