San Cristobal de la Habana was the name of the sixth town in founded by the Spanish on the tropical island of Cuba. It was named after the patron saint of Havana, Saint Christopher. Over the years, the name of the city was shortened to Havana and the San Cristobal part was noted in history books and forgotten for centuries. Ashton has owned the name since the 1980s, but patiently waited for the right partner to create this famous brand. In the early 2000s, Ashton began working with Don Pepin Garcia to expand their portfolio of premium cigars with their first Nicaraguan cigar. Pepin was incredibly excited to be developing a San Cristobal cigar he could barely keep the secret. In 2007, the world finally learned what they had been working on together behind closed doors.
As a follow-up to the original line, San Cristobla Elegancia charts a different path. Where the original was a dark wrapped cigar on the stronger side of the spectrum, the Elegancia is Connecticut wrapped cigar and more of a mild to medium strength affair. It’s an attractive and well-constructed cigar using a blend of aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos. Featuring an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, these cigars are complex and luxurious. Tasting notes include nuts, coffee, and cream with hints of white pepper and leather. Truly an elegant cigar that can be enjoyed anytime of the day.
